Since its founding in 1993, the Cape Verde Coast Guard has been a vital force in protecting the country's waters, ensuring the safety of seafarers, fishermen and swimmers across the archipelago. And on no other island is this more evident than on Brava, where unpredictable weather conditions and turbulent seas often challenge navigators, as well as supporting the evacuation of patients.

Today, officials, Coast Guard employees and members of the local community gathered to celebrate these three decades of tireless service and dedication. The commander of the detachment in Brava, together with the Mayor of Brava, Francisco Tavares, participated in the festivities and were honored for their commitment to keeping Cape Verde's waters safe.

"We are incredibly proud of the work of the Cape Verde Coast Guard and their unremitting commitment to protecting our waters and saving lives," said Francisco Tavares in a press conference. "Brava, in particular, faces unique challenges, and the Coast Guard's fearless personnel have been a beacon of hope for all facing the dangers of the sea."

Festivities included sea rescue demonstrations, laps of the island and a retrospective look at the Coast Guard's notable achievements over the years. The presence of the Boat Commander, who leads a highly trained and courageous team, was highlighted during the event.

With a bright future ahead, the Cape Verde Coast Guard will continue to be a cornerstone of maritime security in the archipelago, maintaining its unwavering dedication to protecting and saving lives. Congratulations to the Cape Verde Coast Guard for three decades of exemplary service and we wish them to continue protecting Cape Verde's waters and communities with the same commitment for years to come.
